How to Choose a Niche

When you start an online business, you want to be choose something that you will enjoy. But if your website needs to survive off of constant content, you can’t pick something too specific that you will only have a few pages with limited content.

Your online business should be enjoyable. Id it feels like you start to loose yourself writing/selling something that you don’t believe in, you won’t do very well because if you don’t believe in it, neither will your audience. It definitely shouldn’t end up feeling like a normal job you take because you need money. This is something that is supposed to be fun, the more you enjoy it, the more effort you will put into it and the more it will give back to you.

If you are not sure what you want your website to be about, you should sit down with a paper and pen and start writing at least 10 things you are interested in life. Then on the side make three columns and name those “Passion,” “Interest,” and “Knowledge.” Once you do this, rate all of your subjects from 1-10 according to the column names. Now add up ever row and scratch out the ones that rated the lowest until you are only left with three awesome ideas.Examples of choosing a niche like dogs, movies, hiking, language, cars, and more
If your niches are too broad (like animals), you may want to make a separate little list (like dogs, cats, or unicorns) with subjects within the niche that may be more specific. You don’t want to get too specific because you need to be able to write about it (like unicorns, not enough information so throw out unless its more fan-fiction type stuff).Jesus and Boss, our dog, with Photoshop looking like a rare unicorn

It is almost impossible to run out of ideas, but you may, and you  would need to possibly expand later on. If you call your website Beauty Tips for Acne, that will be all you can really write about. You wouldn’t be able to add cool beauty tips for dry hair.

Once you decide on something, buy your domain (or get a free one here), build your website (how to build one here), and start writing content.
